THE American Association of Feed Control Officials defines meat and bone meal (MBM) as the rendered product from mammal tissues, including bone, exclusive of any added blood, hair, hoof, horn, hide trimmings, manure, stomach and rumen contents, except such amounts as may occur unavoidably in good processing practices.
MBM should contain a minimum of 4% phosphorus, and the calcium level should not exceed 2.2 times the phosphorus level. The crude protein level will range from about 40 to 55%.
