Najdi dialects, such as those used in Bedouin qasida poetry, lend themselves to quantitative metrical analysis. Because the different syllable structures of outside dialects have gradually been incorporated into the more traditional dialects, the metrical role of stress has been undermined. A linguistic analysis of the metrical structure of Bedouin poetry is still possible, and the various dialects employed allow the spread of the oral tradition to be traced.
