In this work, Michael Bryson argues that Paradise Lost and Paradise Regained are iconoclastic in nature; they are actually Milton's attempt to re-imagine God, to save God from the then popular Protestant conception of the Deity: a glory-seeking, spiteful, vengeful, authoritarian king (9, 110).
