Whatever it is that's causing the ground to rise near the South Sister, it isn't pushing as hard as it was.

The latest data from the instruments monitoring the bulge on the west flank of the quiescent volcano indicate that the uplift has slowed to about half its former rate of an inch or so a year. Geologists think the bulge is being created by magma being pushed into a chamber about four or five miles underground, and if that's true, then the decreased uplift probably means less of the liquid rock is flowing upward.
