"Raisins and almonds" - Goldfaden's glory. (Yiddish lullaby; Abraham Goldfaden)

The Yiddish lullaby 'Raisins and Almonds' was sung by a war-hero, Absalom, in the desert, a song he once heard from his mother. This lullaby was incorporated by Abraham Goldfaden for his operettas. Goldfaden perceived himself as an educator of his people. He provided Jewish workmen with sugar-coated lessons through his songs. In 1876, while at Jassy, Romania, he decided to use his talent for the entertainment of his countrymen.
