"It's a big old goofy world," John Prine sang on his 1991 Grammy-award winning album The Missing Years. Sometime back in the early '90s I found out just what Prine meant, first-hand, when I opened a show for him at a movie theater in Milwaukee. After the show, we went over to the Hilton where he was staying. We walked into the hotel bar and Letterman was on the TV talking with (pro wrestler) the Crusher, who was in the midst of a tirade about Hulk Hogan. He called him "a pussy." John ordered drinks all around and stood at the bar, squinting at the TV screen, observing, as he does. ...
