A parasol in space to shield the Earth from the sun could prevent a worldwide disaster due to the greenhouse effect, Michael Mautner, a New Zealand physical chemist, has suggested to the World Future Society. The warming of the planet due to human activities could cause the polar ice caps to melt and oceans to rise, flooding heavily populated coastal areas.
Current proposals to forestall the greenhouse effect, such as by reforestation to absorb excess carbon dioxide, likely will prove insufficient, Mautner believes, because of the staggering amount of energy ...

Maintaining slate floor coverings: slate is a metamorphic rock. It begins as fine-grained clay mud. The process of extreme pressure and heating causes the mud, composed of sediments of decomposed stone and organic matter, to first to turn to sedimentary shale and then to slate.(Hard Floor Maintenance Opportunities)
Magazine article from: ICS Cleaning Specialist
; Slate cleaves along flat planes and is split into parallel sheets. They are easily identifiable by their "cleft" irregular surface; however, they can be honed to a smooth surface resembling a chalkboard. Slate is primarily composed of clay-like materials, which usually make it very soft and
