The 22 papers of this volume were first presented at the Reaction Mechanisims for Rare Isotope Beams Workshop, held in March 2005 at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory of Michigan State U. in East Lansing, where Brown teaches and carries out his research. The workshops focused on theoretical issues concerning various types of reactions; a reassessment of standard reaction formalisms was a recurrent theme. Among the topics are no-core shell model and reactions, direct reactions with exotic nuclei, isoscaling and symmetry energy in dynamical fragment formation, "pasta" phases in dense stars, and isospin effects on fragmentation mechanisms. Author index included.
