Dec. 2--MANATEE -- For more than a week, the small building adorned with vivid wildlife murals has sat dormant.

Pelican Man's Bird Sanctuary Thrift Shop at 7849 Tamiami Trail N., along with its Venice counterpart are closed. The shops provided financial support for the bird sanctuary and rehabilitation center for injured wild birds.

The stores' lack of profitability forced their Nov. 23 closure. The Manatee store will be sold....
