South Park Street has become the Madison ethnic food thoroughfare that has only State Street as a rival.

Vientiane was among the first, opening just up the block from the current location in 1990, during the first wave of interest in Thai and Laotian cuisine. During the move, the former "Vientiane Palace" demoted itself to "Vientiane Restaurant," even though the new place is much nicer and the menu seems to be the same.
