PARIS -- Just 18 months ago, industry wags were predicting that French financier Philippe Bouriez would sell off his money-losing Revillon Luxe division, which includes Revillon Furs, Karl Lagerfeld, Parfums Caron and Ingrid Millet skin care.

Then when Jean-Claude Cathalan, president of Revillon Luxe, resigned in January 1992, and Dunhill Holdings PLC agreed to buy Lagerfeld several months later, it seemed just a matter of time before the rumor mongers were proved right.
