A description of Somalia's defunct Nomad Education Program, established in Nov 1981, is provided. The ill-fated program was intended to provide specialized, relevant instruction to nomad students on such social concerns as the nation-state, a national identity and political socialization. Students were also taught courses on survival, health and work skills to improve their quality of life.
