WASHINGTON -- Currently cheap and plentiful global supplies of naphtha are going to be in short supply within a few years, forcing petrochemical companies to adopt some unusual new measures, a U.S. expert told a Singapore conference.

A number of Middle East refiners, who are now major naphtha suppliers, are planning to build reformers to turn naphtha into gasoline, which will dramatically reduce the amount of naphtha available for export, said Michael D.
