We examined six newly identified polymorphisms in the [delta]-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD) single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) to determine if these SNPs could modify the relationship between blood lead (PbB) and some renal parameters. This is a cross-sectional study of 276 lead-exposed workers in Vietnam. All workers were measured for PbB, urinary retinol-binding protein (URBP), urinary [c.sub.1]-microglobulin (U[alpha]1m), urinary [[beta].sub.2]-microglobulin (U[beta...

Effects of exposure to elemental mercury on the nervous system and the kidneys of workers producing natural gas.
Archives of Environmental Health ; CERTAIN NATURAL GAS FIELDS contain substantial amounts of mercury. During the production of such fields, workers may be exposed to elemental mercury because it is produced with the gas. Occupational exposure to mercury vapors may lead to renal and neurological alterations.[1-3] Sensitive
Tenoxicam IV for major gynaecological surgery--effects on renal function
Anaesthesia and Intensive Care ; SUMMARY Thirty women presenting for major gynaecological oncology surgery under a standardized, combined epidural/general anaesthetic technique received either placebo or tenoxicam 20 mg intravenously, in a randomized double-blinded manner prior to surgery. Plasma and urinary electrolytes,
Correlation of renal complications with extent and progression of tissue damage in electrical burns
Indian Journal of Plastic Surgery ; INTRODUCTION Electrical burns accounts for 3% - 4% of all admissions to burn units.[1] In high-tension voltage electrical injury, there is deep 'hidden' destruction of muscular structures beneath apparently uninvolved skin. Rhabdomyolysis due to massive break down of skeletal muscles in electrical
Quantitative Trait Loci for Urinary Albumin in Crosses Between C57BL/6J and A/J Inbred Mice in the Presence and Absence of Apoe
Genetics ; ... mice, these loci did not reach the suggestive level and two different loci were identified. The significant Chr 2 locus maps to the same region as the previously reported albuminuria QTL that was found in a KK/Ta (BALB/c KK/Ta) F1 backcross (Shike et ...

Transverse Mesocolonic Hernia of the Jejunum Mimicking Pancreatic Neoplasm
The American Surgeon ; A patient admitted repetitively for vomiting was found to have a radiologic abnormality in the lesser sac, initially interpreted as a pancreatic mass. At exploration, intestinal obstruction due to transmesocolonic herniation of the jejunum explained both the symptoms and the radiologic finding. ON
Omega-3 fatty acid supplementation increases anti-inflammatory cytokines and attenuates systemic disease sequelae in experimental pancreatitis
JPEN, Journal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition ; omega-3 Fatty Acid Supplementation Increases Anti-Inflammatory Cytokines and Attenuates Systemic Disease Sequelae in Experimental Pancreatitis* ABSTRACT. Background.& The cytokines involved in the systemic inflammatory response in acute pancreatitis (AP) comprise lipid mediators (eg,
