Diesel shortage prospects wane as Texaco reports it has new formula. (Texaco Inc.'s cleaner-burning diesel fuel)

Texaco and the California Air Resources Board announced last week that Texaco's formula for cleaner-burning diesel fuel has been approved by CARB. Texaco is the second major oil company whose formula meets the new anti-pollution requirements set by the state agency.

With Texaco's announcement, prospects dimmed that there would be a diesel fuel shortage after the Oct. 1 deadline. Nevertheless, the battle over compliance exemptions which may be granted some oil refiners continues.
