Oct. 9--Don Calvin trusted Penelope Stickler enough to let her manage his company's books. What he didn't know was that for three years she skimmed cash from his business and spent it on video poker.
In the end, Calvin's trusted bookkeeper embezzled about $100,000 from the small glazing business -- a crippling loss that prompted Calvin to shutter his store and work out of his Gresham home. He spent $75,000 in accountants' fees to have his financial records reconstructed.
"She scrambled everything," he said.
