It wasn't Regents biology, but students at Henninger High School got a lesson when a government minister from the Republic of Benin, plus entourage, filed into their classroom Thursday morning.

For starters, the students got a chance to meet the impeccably attired, multilingual, world-traveling guests themselves. They were a textbook come alive.

Chief among them was Rafiatou Karimou, minister of primary and secondary education, who holds a Cabinet-level position in the West African democracy. She became the government's first female ...
