Overview

Intrinsic factor (IF) is a single glycoprotein chain of 340 amino acids with carbohydrate residue and a molecular weight of about 44 kDa. Secreted by the parietal cells of the gastric mucosa, it plays an important role in the absorption of dietary vitamin B12 in the intestine.
