Intrinsic value for nature - an incoherent basis for environmental concern.

Nonsentient nature, such as mountains and rivers, does not deserve to be given intrinsic moral value although it deserves to be given importance for its vital part in the sustenance of life. Things without awareness should not be given the same value as animals, since it is the presence of consciousness and the ability to feel what humans feel which gives inherent value. The morality in nonsentient nature lies in its instrumental value for humans and animals and not in a vague and mystical value inherent in it.
