The Japanese government has remained adamant in their refusal to grant compensation to Chinese, Filipino and Korean comfort women in World War II, despite acknowledging that these women existed during the war. The Japanese government reasoned that there were no documents implying that the comfort women were forcibly recruited during World War II. However, many comfort women claimed that they were forced to become prostitutes for Japanese soldiers during the war. Moreover, these claims are supported by World War II journalists and prisoners of war.
