Sep. 26--Patrick Schmidt first got his fingers in the medical products business selling disposable latex gloves to help pay his college fees. Seventeen years later, the company is the largest distributor of flu vaccine and intravenous immune globulin in the U.S.

The company's newly purchased 52,000-cubic-foot refrigerator was icy cold Sept. 2. Its empty racks awaited the first shipment of flu vaccine scheduled to begin arriving the next day.
