Everybody knows that on a basketball team, five players take the court at any one time. The magic number is 11 for a football team, nine for baseball, and so on, according to the rules of the sport. Add to that the players and backups off the field or court, and the numbers add up.

These numbers tell only part of the story. Along with the athletes who make up the core of any athletic team, a number of other people work to keep the team running (or kicking or dunking). The "team behind the team" strives to make the overall operation a success.
