LAST CHANCE -- Travelers heading east of Denver on U.S. 36, through the shortgrass prairies toward Kansas, better have a full tank of gas.
This town at the crossroads of 36 and Colorado 71 can't live up to its name anymore. The last gas station closed six years ago, leaving only the Dairy King and a church. Now, there's just the church.
It's a place where ranchers sometimes pray for their town's second coming. Or at least the strength to defend their community against what they see as the latest outside invasion.
