Originally conceived by John Stevens in 1850 as a planned community, Mount Vernon has grown into a densely populated and vibrant city complete with rapidly expanding commercial districts. A new retail complex on East Sandford Boulevard includes chain retailers like Target, Bed Bath & Beyond and TJ Maxx.
