Monroe, CT.(regional economy)

Originally part of Stratford, Monroe was incorporated in May 1823 and was named after our nation's fifth president. Today, the town is a rapidly growing family community. In 1950, Monroe's population was 2,700. Since that time, it has grown to more than seven times that figure, to more than 20,000, with the largest boom occurring in the 1950s and '60s. Industry in Monroe has expanded as well, catering to many service-oriented businesses.
