Don Pedro, a character in Felipe Alfau's 'Chromos,' advances the theory that time and motion do not exist. Alfau's narrator does not quite accept that theory because it would mean that he would lose both his free will and his identity as a Spanish American. However, within the confines of the novel, Alfau does not obey the rules of time and space, giving support to Don Pedro's argument even if the narrator denies it in the conclusion.
