If you're not from around here, you might wonder why anyone would want to eat at a place called Boll Weevil.

Throughout the South, boll weevils are insects known to destroy entire cotton patches. But in San Diego, Boll Weevils are rustic restaurants that serve up pool, video games and half-pound Steerburgers.

Founded 25 years ago as a stepchild to a steakhouse owned by Fred and Lorraine Halleman, Boll Weevil has proved a far more successful venture than the Cotton Patch restaurant whose beef trimmings were turned into hearty hamburgers for a less upscale crowd next door.
