Satellite communications is a useful telecommunications tool. Video, data and voice can be supported by satellite services in permanent or temporary situations, such as natural disaster relief. Companies such as GTE Spacenet and Hughes Communications launch the satellites and sell transponder usage to brokers and resellers, who add turnkey service packages and provide technical support, and they in turn sell transponder time to subscribers.
