The synthesis of polyorganosiloxanes from mineral silicates was formulated originally to investigate the structure of the silicates,|1-3~ as the poor crystallinity of some mineral samples precluded structural determination by X-ray methods. A useful method for determining the silicate anions present in mineral silicates is by trimethylsilylation, and the subsequent study of the polyorganosiloxane derivatives by chromatographic techniques.

The trimethylsilylation reaction can...

Polymer with right molecular weight and distribution.
New Materials Japan ; Sumitomo Chemical Co Ltd has developed an amorphous olefin polymer, which has a sufficiently high molecular weight to be used as an adhesive agent. Previously, amorphous olefin polymers have been used as sticking agents or as improving agents for a crystalline polyolefin. It has been possible to
Select the right hydrocarbon molecular weight correlation
Chemical Engineering Progress ; Understand how different techniques produce different results, and how that affects process simulation, design, and operation. Computer models of systems processing wide-boiling-range hydrocarbon streams typically represent distillation fractions as pseudocomponents. In this method, commonly known
Determination of [beta]-glucan molecular weight using SEC with calcofluor detection in cereal extracts
Cereal Chemistry ; ABSTRACT A high-performance size-exclusion chromatography system (HPSEC) was set up with detection based on the specific binding of Calcofluor to [beta]-glucan for determination of amount and molecular weight of [beta]-glucan in different cereal extracts. To calibrate the HPSEC system, a purified

Biomedical Materials ; Polylactic acid microcapsules were prepared using an emulsification and organic solvent evaporation technique with phenobarbitone as a reference core. Three polymers of different molecular weight were used to prepare different core loaded microcapsules. Microcapsule size increased with increase in
High Molecular Weight Poly(ethylene oxide)-Based Drug Delivery Systems: Part I: Hydrogels and Hydrophilic Matrix Systems
Pharmaceutical Technology ; Polyethylene oxide resins are non-ionic, high molecular weight, water-soluble polymers with good hydrophilicity. Their use in controlled-release delivery systems has gained recent interest, and several oral drug delivery systems based on hydrophilic matrix and hydrogels have been successfully
Shear field induced diffusion and molecular weight fractionation during polymer processing.
Polymer Engineering and Science ; INTRODUCTION Polymer processing generally involves flow at high shear rates. Examples include flow through strand or spinnerette dies, film dies, injection molding gates, etc. These processes are usually characterized by a maximum shear rate near the wall of the flow channel--shear rates ranging
BIODEGRADATION - Degradation of poly(D,L-lactic acid) (PDLA) microspheres: affect of molecular weight
Biomedical Materials ; The degradation behaviour of poly(D,L-lactic acid) (PDLA) microspheres during incubation were dependent on the molecular weight of raw polymers as shown by significantly different trends of time- dependent molecular weight change. The lower molecular weight polymeric microspheres exhibited a
