Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Co., a part of the UnumProvident Corp., has developed H.I. Secure, a hospital confinement indemnity product to help employees conserve funds in their health savings accounts when the HSA's high-deductible insurance does not pay all confinement costs. Employers can fund all or a portion of the H.I. Secure premiums or allow employees to foot the bill. As of June, it was available in 34 states.
