* As a practicing Catholic and a biologist, I found Archbishop Christoph Shonborn's July 7 article in The New York Times an embarrassing abdication of human intelligence.

I am also troubled by the coverage that NCR gave to this issue, especially John Allen's reporting in "Catholic experts urge caution in evolution debate" (NCR, July 29). Like most media reporters, Allen's attempt at evenhanded treatment of intelligent design versus evolution achieved little more than providing a forum for the creationists.
