Aug. 18--A large majority of homeowners in a lead-contaminated town in eastern Missouri accepted offers to buy out their properties, but the debate over what to do with their homes continues.

Residents in Herculaneum, about 25 miles south of St. Louis, were eligible for a buyout because of contamination from a local lead smelter operated by Doe Run Co.
