Feed imports destined for the U.S. this summer could damage more than Mark Schwiebert's pride. Some 95% of the corn from his Hamler, Ohio, grain terminal normally moves to pork and poultry producers in the southeastern U.S.
Last year, he faced new competition when a consortium of North Carolina livestock feeders imported an estimated 95,000 tons of South American soybean meal plus several shiploads of European feed wheat, a corn substitute. Another 84,000 tons of British and French feed wheat entered through Georgia.
