* Women ages 15 to 19 are at greatest risk for gonorrhea. In the U.S., approximately 75 percent of all reported gonorrhea is found in younger persons aged 15 to 29 years of age. The highest rates of infection are usually found in 15- to 19-year-old women and 20- to 24-year-old men.

* Studies have shown that gonorrhea screening and treatment can significantly reduce the risk of lower genital tract infection, as well as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID).

* Approximately 50 percent of women infected with gonorrhea have no symptoms. Diagnosis most often results ...
