Aug. 8--The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. may be girding for a mouse-that-roared takeover bid of bigger, swankier Saks Inc., according to a report published Monday.

The news drove Saks' stock price sharply upward on the New York Stock Exchange.

Industry publication Women's Wear Daily reported that Bon-Ton is partnering with Cerberus Capital Management, a venture capital firm, to mount a takeover offer for Saks worth more than $4 billion...
