THE benefactors of years gone by earned their wealth in business and commerce that did not require the council to grant permission.

Beetham on the other hand, due to its core business, needs this permission every time for each new development.

I agree that St George's Hall needs every penny it can get.

However, if the likes of Beetham wish to be generous to the city ...
