Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, have created a form of superfluid matter that they say may help to explain the atomic-level mechanisms responsible for high temperature superconductivity.

The research marks the first time scientists have positively created a friction-free superfluid using a gas of fermionic atoms, which are atoms with an odd number of electrons, protons and neutrons, the scientists say.
