An old saying about eating in Rome holds that 75 percent of the restaurants in the city are good, and the rest are fantastic. Like most hyperbole, there are exceptions--contrary to myth, it is possible to have a bad meal here. Sitting down at a sidewalk cafe on any major street and ordering from the tourist menu is, for example, courting disappointment.
