A prebiotic skincare range, called Aok Put Balance, which promotes the growth of good bugs that chomp away at the bad bugs, responsible for blackheads and acne, has been developed by German cosmetics company Henkel.

'No other compound works like this,' said Dirk Bockmuhl, a microbiologist at Henkel skincare. 'It promotes good bacteria on the one hand, but inhibits bad bacteria on the other.'
