Despite the recent sluggish performance of the German and Swiss economies, the overall financial fortunes of the two nations' airports has remained positive. However, the performances of their national carriers tell different stories. While Lufthansa continues to record increasing success, just four years after the collapse of Swissair, Swiss International Air Lines has had to be integrated into the Lufthansa group of airlines in order to remain a major player in the business. However, it is to be hoped that the carrier's new structure will pave the way for better times ahead.
