Big output but few high-end varieties
China is a country with the leading output of direct dyes in the world. There are around 60 producers with an annual output of around 35 000 tons, accounting for 4% of the total dyestuff output. Direct dyes produced in China include forbidden direct dyes (19 varieties with an annual output of around 10 000 tons), direct mixed dyes (D varieties with an annual output of around 10 000 tons) and non-forbidden conventional direct dyes and direct light-fast dyes (with an annual output of around 15 000 tons).
