Hasan Akbar, an Army sergeant, was sentenced to death for a grenade and rifle attack he launched on sleeping comrades at the start of the Iraq war in March 2003. Akbar killed two, Army Capt. Christopher Siefert and Air Force Maj. Gregory Stone, and wounded 14. Akbar's defense lawyer alleged mental problems, but he had alienation problems all his life.
