On June 26, 1972, two FBI agents and a Native American were shot to death in a fierce gun battle on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation at Oglala, S.D. The circumstances of this tragic event remain in dispute, but, after the largest manhunt in FBI history, three members of the radical American Indian Movement (AIM) were apprehended and brought to trial. Two were acquitted of murder charges when their case was tried in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
