BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: N-acetylcysteine (NAC) is known to have direct antioxidant properties due to its thiol-group on the one hand as well as indirect antioxidant capacity as cysteine-donor to cellular glutathione-synthesis on the other hand.
