Paul Barrows on Saturday said he tried to return to work at UW-Madison at least five times during his controversial seven-month paid leave, but was refused by his boss, Chancellor John Wiley, on every occasion.
"He indicated he was getting too much heat from on-campus and from the community and wanted me to stay away," said Barrows, UW-Madison's former vice chancellor of student affairs, who was making nearly $200,000 a year until last week.
