The effect of vibration isolators depends on variations in frequency, strain and temperature of the elastomers. Consequently, the designer of a vibration isolator must take into consideration the dynamic properties of the polymers and fillers used. The sensitivity of elastomers to strain is analyzed by modeling a highly damped silicone compound. Variations in vibration data demonstrate the effects of strain sensitivity.

Understanding strain sensitivity effects in vibration isolators.
Rubber World
; Selection of a vibration isolator is based upon a desired isolator natural frequency, taking into consideration such aspects as disturbing frequency(ies), desired isolation and required relative deflection. The natural frequency of an isolator is related to the dynamic stiffness of the isolator, as

Solving pump vibration problems. (centrifugal pumps) (Fluid Handling)
Plant Engineering
; Causes of pump vibration must be determined before they are corrected. Alternatives for diagnosing and curing pump vibrations include using consultants, expensive equipment, or a practical approach to determine if natural frequency is the cause. When a centrifugal pump vibrates excessively, it

Air Conditioning, Heating & Refrigeration News
; The dictionary definition of resonance is, A vibration of large amplitude in a mechanical or electrical system caused by a relatively small periodic stimulus of the same or nearly the same period as the natural vibration period of the system. This statement says it all, so let's try to grasp a

Isolating unwanted vibration: isolation systems optimize manufacturing processes.(MACHINE INSTALLATION)
American Machinist
; Shops often overlook vibration issues when installing machine tools or equipment. However, planning for vibration control, optimally before constructing a new facility or during redesign of an existing one, can save shops a lot of money in the long run. That's because isolating machines and

Demonstration of different beam models by simple experiment
International Journal of Mechanical Engineering Education
; Abstract Experimental validation of various beam models is presented. The validation could form part of a course in strength of materials, mechanical vibration and finite element analysis of structures. Natural frequency is used as the key parameter. Such a presentation will also acquaint students

Keep downsized engines from vibrating apart. (using couplings to correct torsional vibrations) (Managers Digest)
Construction Equipment
; Selecting the right coupling can prevent today's lightweight diesel engines from damaging crankshafts, spline shafts, couplings, bearings, gears, and seals within driven systems. Smaller, lighter engines are susceptible to a force called torsional vibration, which can negate new power plants' lower

Don't forget cylinder natural frequency
Hydraulics & Pneumatics
; Hydraulic cylinders exhibit resonances with an undamped natural frequency that is a function of the cylinder's stroke and effective area, the fluid's bulk modulus, and the load mass reflected to the cylinder. When a cylinder is part of a closed-loop motion-control system, its resonance is typically

Stretch shorten cycle performance: detrimental effects of not equating the natural and movement frequencies.
Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport
; Most movements, such as running, jumping, throwing, striking, and lifting are a result of an eccentric action promptly followed by a concentric action. Such a movement sequence is typically referred to as a stretch shorten cycle (SSC), as the muscle is stretched prior to being shortened. SSC

Dynamic sensing with LVDTs.(Brief Article)
Machine Design
; LVDTs may not be new. But frictionless measurement and nearly infinite resolution never go out of style. A linear-variable-differential transformer, or LVDT, is basically a transducer that converts mechanical motion into an electrical signal through mutual induction. A typical two-element LVDT
