IN 2003, local area personal income growth accelerated across the country, reflecting a quickening pace of recovery from the recession of 2001. Personal income in micropolitan areas grew 3.7 percent (up from 2.2 percent), while personal income in metropolitan areas grew 3.1 percent (up from 1.8 percent).
