Ypsilanti officials hope that a request for proposals will allow the Water Street redevelopment, a project that has been sidelined for several years, to be rejuvenated.
Water Street would sit on 38 acres along Michigan Avenue near downtown. A market study commissioned by the city in 1999 called for 75,000 to 100,000 square feet of retail, 25,000 square feet of entertainment and restaurant space, and 400 residential units priced between $150,000 and $200,000.
