TAJ MAHAL - the man not the building - is a bit of an enigma. He first came to prominence in mid-1960s America where he won acclaim as a bluesman, but a bluesman with a difference.

An early collaboration was with Ry Cooder in a blues-rock band The Rising Sons which never recorded. But when he went solo, attention was paid, especially as some of his music mixed blues with ragtime.

Today at 63 he is acclaimed as one of the older generation of bluesmen and due to make a rare Liverpool concert this month.
