Blink and you can hardly see Jennie Finch fire her pitches.

But fans - and an often motionless batter - can hear the ball zip across home plate.

"Froze her," Bill Conroy says.

Those are the two words the owner of the Chicago Bandits hopes to say a lot this summer as Finch and Lauren Bay, who pitched on the Canadian Olympic team, lead the Bandits into their first season.

The team opens its women's fast-pitch softball campaign at 7 p.m. Thursday against Team Australia at Lisle-Benedictine Sports Complex, 5700 ...
